Summary

The Skillpoint Alliance Gateway program provided accelerated, short-term training in high-demand occupations through a combination of classroom training and hands-on skill development to adults with a high school diploma or equivalent and challenges to employment.

The program included four tracks: manufacturing technician, HVAC technician, pre-apprenticeship electrician, and pre-apprenticeship plumbing. The training programs used a worksite style environment and convened a “tailgate” each morning to discuss worksite issues and enhance employment readiness. Program staff also maintained partnerships with employers to create direct opportunities for paid apprenticeship positions and employment and mentorship opportunities for employment readiness training.

The training programs lasted four to six weeks, depending on the track selected.

The program was implemented in Travis County, TX.
