Summary

Capital IDEA Workforce Development Programs and Services provided workforce development training for high-demand occupations, such as healthcare, information technology, and professional trades, for adults who had a high school diploma or equivalent but did not have a college degree.

Participants had to be accepted into the workforce development program. The application process included completing an online information session and assessment process, participating in an initial counselling session, creating an individual training plan, and receiving a final recommendation after an interview. Accepted participants typically completed a 12-week College Prep Academy to prepare for the Texas Success Initiative college readiness exam before entering a training program. Career navigators provided ongoing support to improve participants' job readiness and financial literacy skills.

Participants, on average, spent 3 to 3.5 years in training plus two additional years of job placement assistance and follow-up as needed.

The program was implemented in Travis County, TX.
