Embrace Mothers Birmingham was a guaranteed income pilot for adult single mothers that provided participants with $375 per month for 12 months.

The program provided unrestricted cash transfers that could be used for any type of expenses without any requirements to participate in services.

Eligible Embrace Mothers Birmingham applicants were adult single mothers who were residents of Birmingham, AL. There were no income eligibility criteria, but the average income at enrollment was about one-third of the city’s median household income and over three-quarters of study households were using public benefits.
